About THE FORTUNATE ONES
At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk…
James Ashwood.
He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.
Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip too.
On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.
“Come have a seat.”
Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild—but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.
When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow—he wants a commitment.
And the thing about the fortunate ones?
They’re used to getting what they want.

REVIEW:

Rate: 5 / 5 stars

I was so excited to dive into this, I've wanted a new R.S. Grey book since the last one came out ahah. I feel like I've been stalking Rachel on instagram ever since she announced that she was writing The Fortunate Ones. I really really wanted to read this baby and I'm so grateful I got to read it before it came out.

I couldn't immediately start reading this because I had another arc to read before but I managed to read it in a day, so I dived right into this baby after. And boy I couldn't put this down!! I literally stayed up half of the night powering through this beauty (I'm so glad it was the weekend!). I was so intrigued by Brooke and her relationship with James, I just wanted to know what was going to happen next.

“Oh, I see a lot of things,” I joke, deflecting any more talk about him. Although, it is true—I do see a lot behind the scenes at Twin Oaks. But I’ve never seen anything quite like him.

This book tells the story of Brooke who is struggling to find a job in her field of work and starts working at a country club called "Twin Oaks—a.k.a. where dreams go to die". Her father has a membership in the club but that does not mean she's treated any better than her fellow co-workers, which also include her sister, the rich snobs who frequent the club all treat her like the help (One in particular is a total b*tch, you'll see who I'm talking about when you read this). Well all except the sexy James Ashwood. He's the drop dead gorgeous man no one in the club can stop talking about and fanning over. While Brooke too finds him totally attractive, she does not participate on the fangirling, not until she meets him officially, and even then her fangirling is still private ahah. Brooke is quite the character and even though I loved her, she had a lot of issues and flaws she needed to work on.

It’s here that I should probably clarify that I’ve only ever seen James Ashwood from afar. Maybe someday I’ll stop referring to him by both his first and last name, but for now—and honestly, probably for always—he will remain James Ashwood. Without a doubt, he falls into the George Clooney category of men. From polling the women around the club, there isn’t a single person walking around here with two X chromosomes who doesn’t find him extremely attractive.

Their story was filled with fun moments and a lot of serious ones too, mainly due to Brooke's panicking sessions, which lead to heart-wrenching moments between her and James. I was full on hooked on their journey and craving every interaction between them just waiting on the moment they would cave into each other, and then, after, waiting for them to find each other again.

He takes another step toward me. I step back and my heels hit my bedroom door. There’s nowhere to go, no way to escape the fact that James is crushing me against the door with his body, not enough to hurt me, but enough to make my breathing erratic. My chest brushes against his and my heart leaps as if trying to reach him. His hand still holds my chin, and slowly he tips it up, up, so when his head bends and he captures my mouth, our lips are perfectly in sync.

They made me feel a lot of things, at one point my emotions were all over and I was on my toes wanting to find out what came next. It was such a fun and at the same time heartbreaking journey for them and for me. Brooke had a lot of issues she needed to work on, mainly mommy related, and she just needed closure on that part of her life and distance from James, to finally realize her true feelings and what she wanted for her future. I loved reading their story and I cannot wait to re-read this when I get it in paperback! I did not want this book to end and I could have kept reading about these characters for days on end.

Rachel's books always give me life and this one was no different. I love her romcoms, she rocks them every time! She had so many funny references that I  laughed at, even though I fit the bill in most. *cringes*
'The Fortunate Ones' had its share of love, fun, drama and heartache and that, for me, is the perfect light book that will put you in a good mood and keep you company for a couple of hours. Could not have enjoyed it more!

“I missed you today,” he says, his heated gaze lingering on my body.

I step back, and he follows.

He looks like he’s cornering his prey.

“Apparently not enough to make it to dinner,” I point out icily.

“I called the restaurant and told them I’d be late. Didn’t they tell you?”

I cross my arms and glance away.

“Brooke.” He steps closer and gently lifts my chin, forcing me to look back at him. “Fight with me tomorrow.”

I narrow my eyes, angry with him for shelving this discussion so casually. To him, it doesn’t matter that I sat in that restaurant alone, looking like a fool for nearly two hours. He’s brushing off my anger, stepping closer and forcing his way past my defenses.

“I think I’d like to talk about it now.”

I catch the beginning of a smirk just before he leans in to kiss my cheek.

“Are you sure there isn’t anything you’d rather be doing right now?”

He uncrosses my arms and brings them up over his shoulders then steps closer, towering over me. My arms tighten around his neck, but still, I turn away, keeping my mouth from him. His breath hits my neck and he pulls me taut against his hard body, growing more impatient with every moment I try to resist.

“Brooke,” he whispers huskily.

My eyes flutter closed as he bends and presses a kiss to my cheek, my chin, then lower, tipping my head back so he can reach the smooth recess at the nape of my neck. I shiver and he groans, obviously aware of what his touch is doing to me.
